theatre program for incarcerated women in san francisco. one of janine's coworkers performs with this group, so we went to see them this week. kick ass! there was a particularly striking dance performance (think: dying in high heels all over the stage) by a tall thin african-american woman whose name i don't remember now. that bit sort of stole the show for me, but each of the pieces was amazing. not only a shining example of community-based art but, like the best art, transcending that to something universal.
